PreREVIEW
"old" movie of 2013 with high imdb ranking and where Ruffalo and Knigthly and Corden (the talk show host) is in here.
REVIEW
This movie is about music. I only knew that during watching it. Knightly is a past time singer with her BF played by Adam Levine. Mark Ruff is an ex record producer. I had to see this because of the 7.5 Imdb ranking and the familiar stars in it. Singers not actors are Levine and Celio Green. Both of them act naturally and not as part time actors. The fat late late night show British guy (Corden) was also good as a street performer and funny too with his part. Thou I never know or the film did not refer to why these 2 people are British.
Mark Ruffalo is different in this one. I always feel he acted the same in every of his film like there is a certain line he wont cross. But this one he is as natural (and funny) as he can be.
Miss KK looks skinny as usual but there is a certain looks of her that is so nice. A good actor like her knows how to bring a part out a good example is when her face changed whne listening to her BF (ex) song and realizing that its not for her. The next thing happen, she slapped Adam Levine right in the face.
It dont have a typical happy or sad ending. But kudos to Gretha (played by Knightly) for making her stand finally. In a way it also relate to what internet is effecting the record industry. How they decided to sell online for a small profit or produced normal way with bigger margin but a risky one.
How the direction went back and forth at the beginning was creative. Its not years or even days of flashback but mere hours. But it was effective and did not confuse the understanding of the story flow.
But Kiera sings the songs ! Thou not powerful her musicality in interpreting and delivering the songs shows and shines. Also notice that she had bad but cute overlapping teeth. And thats good about her for most artist would have the whole mouth done.
This movie has that "Rudderless" feeling in it where strong and memorable songs bring it up. It also has that "Before we leave" theme of friendship between 2 people in New York.
A good movie deserving the IMDB rating anyday.
