So I finally saw this film after an unusual long months of waiting for a good download copy. Watched this with my son as before it came out in the cinema he wanted to see it. Too bad it came with a rating 18 (he's only 13). But after watching this movie at home, it should not have got the 18 ratings. That goes the same for Need of Speed a few years ago. There are politics going on in the censorship board for sure. As I complained on a Malays film with foul, bad language, shootings, knives, hitting police and all the the other stuffs got into the cinema with a PG13. When asked why ? The director says because somebody had leaked the film over the internet and if they are tagged with 18, then income would be less. Just because the father of the director is closed with the Police does not mean that you can make that as an excuse. But anyway the film went through with a PG13 ! Well forget about this local hypocritical bullshit for a while and talk about the film instead.

But still why it took so long for it to come out with a clear copy. Just the opposite of Star Wars: TFA, this movie has very bad reviews from Youtube reviewers JJ and CS. They even say they fell asleep watching this. Gimme a break. Anyway, maybe the reason is because the producers were afraid to spend more money making blu rays and nobody buys ? 

OK lets talk about the movie.

It is a remake of a 90's hit of the same name starring Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze. KR played Johnny Utah and PS played Bodhi. In this film you have not too popular actors playing the 2 parts. But if you read IMDB, the parts were actually offered to known actors but they declined due to one reason or the other. I think the physicality requires for this film is the best explanation.

The film could have been better. The actions are fantastic thou. It looks so real and you wonder which one is the special effects. It was spectacular watching on LED TV and cant imagine how it was at the cinema. It makes you wonder in awe that there are places like this in this world. The waterfalls, the mountain top, the sea waves (which could be fake) and many more. 

This remake does not follow exactly what the original story was although there are familiar part. But to me nothing could beat the part when KR (without a parachute) jump the plane to catch PS (with parachute).

I agree with the reviews in saying that character development was lacking. Not that their acting were poor rather than their character were not interesting or they did not do anything to make them memorable. Also I would caution the director to do some timeline story telling when two scenes which are years or months apart but are back to back. Audience might miss the Time imprint to tell how long it was from the previous one especially when the first was 7 years apart and the 2nd one 7 months apart. They look the same and that was the problem.

I enjoy the film despite the handicap above. Its an action film which try to have serious acting and serious story line of what made them do the thing they did. Anyway who cares for that and it miss the mark. But 5.4 on IMDB is on the low side for me.

What an experience watching this. For those who like, in fact crazy on this movie, are those who love Japanese Anime. Its written all over it. If you want to see giant stupid naked people (or zombies?) eating people  this one is for you right at your face without any concern of censoring the gory part (except the genitals). This film can be so blantantly fan based orientated despite the crappy special effects and story that IMDB gave it an 8.9 ! I dont think it even care that it can scare the shit of those kids who may not have the heart of watching it.

Here you'll see lots of gory scene like a giant swallowing human, pulling arms and legs till they snapped, chewing and crushing humans well this is the right film.

Japanese are known to come up with weird and wild story concepts and this is one of them. Forget about the "Maze Runner" as the element of very high walls is here too, you get plenty what you bargain for here. The interesting things is how do the humans kill them. thou they have a few strategies which are difficult to execute, they wanted a better and easier way.
!

But one thing I like about the movie is that anybody can be killed whether you are the hero of the film or not.

So if you some very different movie experience watch this. In the midst of the film, I kept asking - what am I watching actually ? For this, the weirder the better it is.

PHANTOM HUNTING

A surprising emoticon because of its commendable effort in trying to be good. But you will be thrill allright.

This is a foreign language movie which was translated, I think or just bad voice over ? Possibly from Khazashtan its a futuristic movie set in the future (maybe) with known names like Armande Asante (Judge Dred) and Kristen Loken (Terminator).They are definitely crowd pullers. KL looks like Sharon Stone when she was younger and sexy.  Other cast are film locals lead by pretty boy so called martial art expert by the name of Timur (in the movie).

At least the movie made an effort to look hi tech and highly budgeted. Some of the action and fighting scenes are good. Explosion not so good but not so bad either better than low budgets sci fi films I see.

Aside from the acting which are basically woody (except for the "stars" of course) the background music is overdone which I didnt like. Movies that do this tend to hide the scenes with music because the acting is not good or the set is under par etc. Good movies have silence which spoke a thousand words.

Then the make up is another thing. They all look well done even after fights and runs. Some makeups of the females looks the same with same hairstyle that sometimes it confuse audiences (or is it only me). Many pretty boys and girls in this movie thou.

Be prepared to see some ridiculous actions like a car going from a cliff but exactly landed on the rails. Or a motorbike going through the roof of a bus and remain unscathed. But its thrilling thou maybe not logic. The hero and villain know Parkour too ! And whats these hot army chicks on the plane with hot pants. Dont forget Point Break 1 cliche saving one from a plane who is without parachute and when its landed on rooftop of a sky scrapper the crooks happened to be there. Talking about coincidence !

The timeline and logistic is also questionable when the location is discovered just in seconds they are there.

The flow of story telling is not good either, between the flashbacks and the current happenings, I tend to got lost. Also from scenes to scenes, its kindda of not smooth or right. Theres one scene where the bad guy look very soft when confronting his boss (I think) but when he's running and fighting our pretty boy hero, he was so tough. Also some reaction from the characters interaction dont quite make sense like when you stab someone in the calf your reaction would be to punch the guy (or gal) in the nose unless the hand was tight up or he was paralyzed. Anyway he could feel the pain when the knife was stabbed, isnt it.

This is a movie you expect when you sit inset aside the illogical parts but you are still thrill which is a good thing

Well this episode went a bit deeper into Cass's background. She even got taken and stripped in this one. And you also got to see the fight between The Player and PitBoss, pity Alex. The pursue for Ginny (alex's wife) got a little closer with the discovery of what actually stores in the Stores.

Not much of bang bang in this show like it usually shows. But there is this cool kung fu style, a threesome Jane and Kurt vs a black crook. Fully dressed in Tuxedo and Gowns.
Pity the boyfriend of the Analysis got killed. That will be covered in another episode of course. Definitely a collateral damage.Slower show than usual but good. Actually realised that Kurt is not yet married. Any chance for Jane (if she is not his sister - which is quite confusing)

REVIEW
Decided to watch AU as it is an action film basing from the trailer. But the 1st 20 mins was dead slow thinking that it would be a dull one. How wrong can I get !
The movie was not that long just about 1hr 35m. Just right to packed in all the action. Without too much time flash back (except for the flashes in Mike's brain) the movie was not a brainer. The fighthing is non rope assisted it seem so making it more real. Non of the chops but much close to reality.
Wonder why the reviews in IMDB is not good - some say its too dirty with the bloods and all that and they cant stop commenting about Kristen Stewart. Talking how bad she was in the film. On the contrary, shes very good and did not look superficial at all.
But without good acting from Essenberg and Stewart this movie would not go far. As a matter of fact good to know the director is an Iranian (or was born from Iranian parents) and seem like only his 2nd movie after project X (havent seen that).
Didnt feel bored watching it thou it was after midnite. Fully absorbed to the intense story telling. In the end Mike and Phoebe were like agent JB.
Well done. Thats the way to make a worth the time movie this one.

Spectre - Cinema

REVIEWED (full of spoilers)
So one of the most anticapated movie of the year finally came. I was one of the first, proudly proclaimed, to see it in Malaysia (Thursday 11.30am mantinee). The opening was today, but it was already shown midnite.
So here is my report..
Before stepping into the cinema, I had saw some reviews over Youtube and even typed news. The review was not very good. One youtube claimed that it was worst and "dogshit" (not J Jahn). Not everyone review it yet as US screening is only tommorow. Britain was earlier last week Monday. However Chris Stuckman gave mixed reviews.. some good some bad. So now my opinion is entirely mine as I have seen it finally.
Action
You are not dissapointed when it comes to the action. All the actions are great and real because they are close to real. The first one, Mexico carnival, is the most exciting and scarry. Of course JB is no match to Mr Hinx (Batuista) but kindda non JB for him to run (in the car chase) than to face and finish its once and for all. This also happen on the train too.
The scene where the whole desert complex destroyed still bothers me. 007 stole a machine gun and shoot up bad guys along the way. He also shot what seem to be a gas tank. And that is enough to have the whole complex exploded and destroyed. Perhaps, the villains forgot about security as they had busily equipped the complex with hi tech surveillance technology ?
Death not defined
Yes you dont see that in this one especially to Mr Hinx. For him he died after all, but did not seem so during his "death" scene. Maybe he came back alive like Oberhauser did, but he didn't (meaning he died). But why not satisfy the audience by giving one.. After all its at the hands of 007 !
007 Character
Read or heard it that he acted different in this one not like his previous outings. Talking about Craig's Bond of course. We all know he has a dark and cruel side but not a funny side which was potrtayed in this one. But he is not Connery, Moore or even Brosnan. At certain times, its a mistake for him to come out with a trying to be funny one liner which aren't and it spoil the whole scene. He is just not kindda of Bond and many would agree with me.
Acting Time
Mentioning below is on Belucci's acting time. Even Chris Waltz acted quite brief in this 2hr 38min film not worthy of being a co star. Salute to Daniel Craig for acting in almost every scene.
Dialog
This needs mentioning. Its kindda strange in a Bond movie especially Craig's Bond era. Some are cheesy. Even surprising that some should not be the "train of thought" of the conversations. But it happened.
Bond Girls
With so short a screen time and nothing contributing, wonder why they call Monica Belucci as a bond girl ? Co strarring would do fine. And as for Lea which definitely is one, she must be the luckiest actress around to be both appearing as a Bond Girl and also in Mission Impossible. As a villian thou in Ghost Protocol (the one who got thrown out of Burj towers)
Fashion and Style
We all know Bond films is full of style. But why dress up in white tuxedo on a old train running on a hot desert for dinner. This brought up Mandeline's sexy dress, of course. At the desert complex it was Oberhauser who wants both to dress up nicely with suit and dress fit them nicely too.
Music
Overall the soundtrack was good and unlike the usual ones. Except for the car scene which is out of place.
Theme
The theme song by Sam Smith fit the mode of the film nicely. Not one of better ones thou. However, the theme is not that nicely done. Giant octopus, Yucks ! Wonder why in reviews some even admire it.
Finance
Read that this film cost a whopping $300 Mil and over budget to $350 mil ! The film didn't look that expensive to me. So has politics or creative funding works its way to the movie like we suspect in Lone Ranger ? Maybe they are banging on the success of SkyFall crossing the $1B will be no problem. So why not the funders makes some money.
Conclusively, this is still a good film. It feels disappointing as the expectation was much too high judging from the previous outing.

Blindspot Ep 7

Featuring now old Lou Diamond Phillip. Seem that the tatooing tells what to happen very soon after, which dont make sense. Example - finding guns and helicopter parked and ready to go, gimme a break ! Then there's this code found in the library right to the intended page. Quite far fetch. Its fun if you dont take it seriously. But how long will the tatoos on Jane's body got exhausted ? Good shooting thou.

No Escape

REVIEW
This is a film of human courage (family spirit to be more exact) against all odds in the face of tragedy (in this case man made tragedy - country civil war). Thou it was never told which country this happened, our guess is it happened in Thailand.
Pierce Brosnan is in the movie and from the poster our guess is he play the shooting guy. And we are right but how heroic he was is quite real as he get unlike when he was working with MI6.
The action did not dissapoint and there was some scarry ones. But the action was not overdone. Wilson and Bell played their part as responsible parents well. Unlike J Bateman in The Gift, thou O Wilson played a serious part in this one, certain parts we can glimpse the comedic actor he is. but thats ok for it did not spoil the film.
A good movie overall in its genre.

Hitman Agent 47

Saw this one at the local cinema Jusco sometime back before this blog was created. So this is a belated review. Hope that i can still recall the movie.
This stars Rupert Friend who is Peter Quinn from the hit series Homeland. He can act as a cool killer all right but physique wise he is no six pack. Also read that the Paul Walker was to have taken this role before his untimely death.What reviewers complain was the usual cheesy lines, poor special effect and acting. But i beg to differ and give this movie a "satisfactory outing" at the cinemas. I like it. There could be follow ups judging from what happened at the end of the scene. Did Rupert did better than timothy ? I think so from his bloody cool acting. And what about Zachary Quinto as the villian ? He's Ok too and not extremely memorable at one. Will sure see it again after downloading. And that to me is good stuff.

The Player S01E05

Lets go another round of bang bang with the Player. Hope its better or at least better what it has been showing.

One of the best espisode with lots of action in this one. We also got to see Wesley doing his martial arts. Didnt seem to be your typical Kung Fu but something chinese. He even fought with the chinese guy who acted north korean also from Strike Back. If theres a survey on who do you think could be a Bond girl my vote for Cass. Real British and Classy this chick. The upcoming bond girl is not that hot (not Monica but the younger one).
In this episode Alex try to save this young white hat Indian hacker. The side plot about him and his wife got a bit thicker in this episode too. Good episode i say.

A Time for Consequences - Now Showing

A non English action film for our viewing pleasure. Tony Jaa is here and we know that he is Siamese.

What crystal clear picture and sound can bring ones viewing to a new level. This is one movie that was downloaded and quickly see as its good for the whole family. Forgotten that I have downloaded it before in a low quality and stopped early. Anyway its finally good to see and finish it this time. Not dissapointing at all.
First, the quality has a good windy but not complicated plot. Tony Jaa an action hero we all know and the main star in the film is not the best one thou. He is no 4.
Like any other film, some parts may be illogic and cant comprehend, but that doesnt spoil the fun. Its a 2hr long film ! It has poetry and action. Not all focusing on TJ fighting but chinese martial arts. It brings back memories of old chinese movies in the '90's where fighting poetry is everything. But 2 funny things about smart phones 1. Fell into the sea but recovered by fisherman and good as new. 2. Fell from the 1st floor of the prison (about 20 ft) and escaped with a scratch. Download an app where it can translate Siam - Mandarin vice versa in natural human tone. You can hold on to lukemia for 3 years if want to.
But anyway this is a movie and you can accept these for the sake of film dont you ?

With Chopra in the lead i thought i will eventually disappoint but it did the opposite by making the series more interesting. Hope it does not become too complicated to understand or remember whats going on the last time.

Blindspot

The action never stops. Plot not so bad as any cop movie. Hopefully it kept me hanging on.

Heroes Reborn

Saw Ep3. Woww this keep me captivating. Many heroes and whats up with them really bring suspense. Now one of my favourite this season.

Homeland Season 5

Now carrie is working with some German firm in Berlin after leaving CIA. Peter Quinn (aka Agent 47 in another movie) is still around so does Sol who is disappointing big time with Carrie. This returned episode has no opening credits. Dont know what will it be when it appear (hopefully) in the next episode. Still Jazzy I hope.
Still using the form of slow and tense plot running which works. Thanks to good acting and writing. Definitely will follow and cant wait for next episode to come. Every Sunday it will be.

The Player

Dont think this series has not much material but the action and straight forwardness is appealing. The action is something else and not too bad either. This episode 2 nearly a copycat of Mission Impossible and Point Break at the plane segment. Need action from TV, this is the one. The role of wesley snipes could be taken by anyone.
