FORSAKEN

 REVIEWED
The movie is actually Canadian. Seem to be nominated with many awards in Canada but nothing in the USA. Not that i dont agree as nothing with this movie is a breakthrough or out of the ordinary. Crowd puller are of course father and son Donald and Keifer Sutherland plus Demi Moore. There are one or two have seen actors in the movie, who cares who.

The movie started kindda slow with John Henry Clayton (KS) returning to his hometown  not welcome by his father. Shot rather straight forward with no flashback (except for the intro) we got to understand what and why. There are many movies with this kind of plot especially western movies. So if you wanted a cliche then get right into it.

The cowboy life seems realistic enough. Also you can see horse shit on the ground in the town which is what should be shown in cowboy movies anyway. The shootings and gunfights also looks real as nobody can shoot bulls eye all the time. Even the good guys missed too.

Read that they used the cowboy town backdrop after it was built for a documentary which had completed shooting. Shooting was in Canada. In the movie John Henry was in the war which could be the US civil war ? But maybe its a Canadian war and the town was in Canada and they are all Canadian ? That was not made clear.

The gunfights are thrilling enough where the blood splatter and wounded face looked closed to the real thing.

My complain is why the head of the bad guy Frank can be so out of control and his employer cant even given a reprimand. Even the gunslinger the boss hire didnt seem to be able to control the boys. I guess if the boss did that he can get killed too.

See this if you miss watching cowboy movies or Jack Bauer. Not bad as it is quite short at 1 1/2hr.

Got the chance to watch this one hunger for comedy as the last one I saw was in dismay.

This movie has many known comedian actors with Adam Sandler as the main star. Not only that he also co wrote and produced the film too. So that should be questionable as AS has been acting in a series of shitty movies lately.

The movie did not fail and it was really funny. This is how you make comedies. In fact this is how you make western films. Nothing wrong in the cinematography nor the soundtrack etc. It all blend in nicely. Yup there are some over the tops jokes that they term as "mystical" like a beheaded man still shooting his guns dont forget the fighting scene with the left eye bandits at the beginning of the film. But it was funny. There were many characters take from the American folklore like Don Diego (Zorro), Wyatt Earp, Gen Custer even Abe Lincoln too !

The plot is unexpected too, nothing that you expect of a straight forward comedy; the twist who actually was their father Frank Stocckburn played by Nick Nolte. Didnt expect that.

When it is a good comedy 2 hours is not long.

The costume, make up and screenplay are all impressive. If you took some stills from the movie (not the funny one) You may be mistaken for a high budget cowboy movie.

Hats off to the Ridiculous 6 ! Adam Sandler nailed it this time.

THE REVENANT

REVIEWED

Watching this movie is an experience ! The movie was directed by the same man that brought Birdman. After watching this pretty long movie of 2 hour 36mins, you really felt that you were at some very cold snowy and icy place. Not only that, you felt that you know already how to survive in the most extreme condition ever. To name one - cut open a dead horse, throw away its inside, get yourself naked and sleep in the horse. This when you are facing a blizzard. How cool can that be !

To me the cinematography was a breakthrough. Most of the shots use a single camera. Moving but not shaky cam. Some of the angles and takes are so innovative and clever that you think this is like another modern day hitchcock when his techniques were talked about by directors after him. I wonder how it felt to see this on a large screen and 3D (if there is this version). Even you can hear the actors from your left or right side when they are speaking behind the camera. Simply brilliant !

The camera takes is like still photography from a photographer in moving forms like the one you see in the old war movie stuffs. And being maul by a bear ! You got to see this and you'll believe that the bear actually mauled the poor guy.

The main actors were Leonardo and Hardy. They have worked before in Inception.

Thumbs up for this !

Bone Tomahawk

PreView Review
This film was chosen because Kurt Russel is in it. The last movie he did which we see was FF7. So he's back to his root with a cowboy film. Second because of good imdb rating. Enjoy.
Review
First of all, before seeing this movie one must be sure that one like or can tolerate lengthy limited budget cowboy film. Why not as this is a 2 hr 12 m long movie but with notable actors like Russel, Fox, Wilson and even Jenkins too. During the show which felt dragging, knowing that its long, was what you paid money for. Simple plot about kidnapping and a very determined but handicapped posse to save them.
Here are some notable observation in the movie :-
- The footsteps in the bar and sheriff office was really prominiently loud. Which is actually what should be of a cowboy film as the floors are made of wood !
- These cowboys sometimes used big words. Words which can improve your vocabulary and you wouldnt think these folks could apply in their chatting.
- What made me (or many people to continue seeing) was when the lady doctor got abducted. As there was an able bed scene, audience thought they must be some more in front. On the contrary, there was non and we were feasted with gory butchered bodies. Didnt the savages want anything to do with Mdm Doctor ?
- If the movie was cut short at 1 1/2hr movie the suspense could be more contained. But even at this length its ok as the scenes (thou slow) fit the story nicely. But dont ask me how they can walk so far so fast when thier horses got stolen or how a broken nearly amputated leg cowboy did it, god knows.

Overall, this is a well done movie. The mixture of the goriness, action and drama is right enough to make it enjoyable through out. Thumbs up for cowboy film.

Wild Horses

Written, directed and starred by Robert Duvall. Too simple a movie presentation. Real wife shouldnt have acted - too woody.
